Barbara O’Meara
President Elect & Co-Chair Fundraising Committee
Barbara O’Meara, a lifelong Democrat, whose young life was ruined when Humphrey didn’t win the Presidency, discovered early on that being a Democrat in Iowa was not going to be easy! Not only did Humphrey lose Iowa, but in 1980 the ERA failed in Iowa, as well! This failure stalled all national ERA efforts! She dreamed of moving to Cook County one day so she could vote multiple times for Democrats—and, yes, in Iowa they thought this was for real. Although she never made it to Cook County, she’s been thrilled to find organizations like the Democratic Women of DuPage County, whose mission aligns with her values and whose members work together to make this a better world. She has been a Naperville Township Precinct Committeewoman (2018-2022), Indivisible Naperville leader (2017-present), candidate for the Naperville City Council (2019), an appointed member of the Naperville Library Board (2019-present) and an elected Commissioner for the DuPage County Forest Preserve, District 5 (2020).
